Hoop Weaver is...
Jen Fleming developed Hoop Weaver in 2008, after her first introduction to hoop dance. She fell in love immediately, and pursued hoop dance videos on line as she taught herself to manipulate this fun toy. With a background in Arabic belly dance, Jen took to the hoop like a monkey to the trees.
In winter of 2008 Jen hosted her first hoop dance workshop at the Staircase Theater. The following year she participated in the Cambridge Arts Festival in Cambridge ON as a hoop vendor, and went back for a second year. In 2010 Jen was also a participant as a vendor in The Locke st Festival, Hamilton ON.
In 2010, Jen organized Hamilton Flow Circus, a group for adults to come together and explore various prop dance arts, including hula hoops, poi spinners, juggling, contact juggling, baton twirling and staff manipulation. In early 2012, Flow Circus because Free Flow to better communicate the ideals of the community: freedom, inclusion, and the concept of flow in life and all things. Free Flow used the Jamesville Community Centre as a meeting place up until it closed in the summer of 2012. Currently, Free Flow does not have a home, but hopes to find one before the weather gets cold.
Recently Jen has begun exploring performance with The Hamilton Aerial Group. She did a piece with another dancer as part of their Steampunk titanic production, and has performed with them at The James St N Art Crawls. Jen also performs for Ajna Productions music events, held at Club 77 and Club Absinthe. She is presently working on a choreography for a solo piece with Hamilton Aerial Group at the Theater Aquarius on September 21 2012. She hopes to expand her performance experience, and gain greater depth as a performer.
Currently Jen is planning a workshop series to be held in Hamilton Ontario.
