The Circus Tree
The Circus Tree Hamilton Arts Walk Exposed September 28 - October 12 2012
The Circus Tree was designed by Jen "Hoop Weaver" Fleming as a means of bringing play to Hamilton.
Made with an upcycled hat rack and beach umbrella, sono tube, doweling and lots of electrical tape, this installation lit up King William St for two weeks.
Adults and children would gather to play with the hula hoops and other dance and circus props.
There were classes to teach the public how to use the props and encourage play among adults.
What some people had to say...
"I love this! I work in the offices across the street and I saw this and thought, well isn't that just what I need? Some whimsy on my lunch break."
- Nice Lady Worker in Offices Across the Street
"If I was a little girl who didn't have a home, I would want to live here!"
-Syris, age 7
"This is so much fun."
-Pretty Much Everyone
"I've never been able to hula hoop." 5 minutes later... "Oh my god I can hula hoop!!!"
-A Brave Adult
Thanks to everyone who helped make this project a success. Looking forward to building more such things in the future.
